For all of you who think I am giving my child a 'victim complex'

by talking about and thinking about race so much...

I read the PERFECT post about this over at Anti-Racist parent today. They use a perfect metaphor for all of my reasons for being intentional about teaching my child about race and racism.

PLEASE go read it. It is important. And... I would appreciate reactions!

So-- I know this is the second day in a row that I have just sent you somewhere else for content. But--really, I am working on this racial identity development paper and feel all content-ed out by the time I get around to blogs. Sorry and eventually I will get back in to more thoughtful posts. But, for now, I will just outsource :)

SO FUNNY.

Okay... so, blogging includes not only writing blogs but also reading other blogs. I am unsure exactly where I came across the blog I am going to share with you, but it is HILARIOUS. Justin and I read it together the first time we came across it and spent the rest of the evening scrolling through back posts and laughing histerically. It is a dad-blogger, adoptive parent of two ethiopian girls. I don't even know this person. I have never corresponded with him... but, reading his posts today made me giggle aloud in my cubicle.

You MUST check it out.

For those of you who read this blog to keep up with the adoption process, here is what is happening now.

* We have now been waiting 14 months
* After this much time, all of the stuff that you did has to be 'updated'
* So, we had our home study update-- new visit from the social worker to discuss what has changed in the past year (not much)
* We got updated physicals with Dr. Thacker (our GP) for the completion of the home study update
* We just got our letter from CIS (Citizenship and Immigration Services) for appointments to have our fingerprints 'updated' (because those change... whatever...)
* I have everything ready to send off to have our I600A extended (form that allows one to bring an orphan from another country into the US).  (can't be sent off until 3 months until it is about to expire)
* The most recent baby referral went to someone who had waited for 17.5 months.  The next person on the list waiting for a baby has a date at the very end of October or beginning of November, 2006.
* Our date is 1/16/07.

That's all she wrote!

Hello and Nothing New

Hello blog readers,

Nothing really new here. Tomorrow will be another day of paper reading/writing. I think I am ready to add sections about White Racial Identity Development and begin working on the Transracial Adoption racial identity development stuff tomorrow. I have read through my old paper that I am using as a first half and have identified weak spots and things to build upon. I have also committed to my advisor to have a rough draft to her by April 1st! So--I really do have to get a move on. J is presenting a paper on the iPod and Urban Geography or something like that in Rhode Island the last weekend of March, so I should have that weekend to pull out my final hours of paper writing in order to get it turned in on time.

I did buy another book. I know... I know... Now is not the time for new books that don't have anything to do with my paper!! But a friend recommended this author on her blog and there really hasn't been much on t.v. lately... so... Emily Giffin it is.

We watched Across the Universe with friends on Friday night. I liked it (we also saw it in the theater) again. But, I really do think that about 20 ish minutes could have been cut. (Sorry, Bono... but probably mostly from your section.)

My mom got stuck in Cleveland at my brother's place after a massive snow storm! I know she wasn't too sad about it :)

We double booked ourselves for Easter... Oops... So, we may eat with one group and then leave to go to our other friends' home. One family invited Justin... One family invited me... and we both accepted without talking to each other first... :)

Here's to a good and productive Monday.

Love,
K
